Your first order
Place a market or limit order from the order ticket. Every cost shows before you send, and a confirmation shows the whole order once more.
On this page: Pick a market and set leverage
This page walks through one order on a perpetual market, from the ticket on the trade screen. On a phone or tablet, Buy or Sell opens the same ticket in a drawer. If the ticket’s button reads Connect wallet, Enable trading or Approve the trading fee, finish sign-up first; the button takes you to the step you need.
Pick a market and set leverage
Section titled “Pick a market and set leverage”Switch markets from the market name at the top of the trade screen, or press ⌘ K on a Mac, Ctrl K elsewhere, to search them all.
At the top of the ticket, Margin sets cross or isolated margin for this market, and Leverage sets how large a position your margin can open. Both open the same dialog. See Leverage and margin before you raise it.
Choose a side, a type and a size
Section titled “Choose a side, a type and a size”- Side. Buy / Long profits if the price rises; Sell / Short if it falls. On spot markets they read Buy and Sell.
- Type. Market fills now at the book’s prices. Limit rests at your price until it fills or you cancel it. Stop and the Advanced menu hold the other types; see Market and Limit.
- Price, for a limit order. Type it, or press Bid (Ask for a sell) or Mid to fill it in. A line under the field says how far it is from the mark price.
- Size. Type it in the asset or in dollars; press the unit to switch. The slider and the % box size the order as a share of what you can trade, shown as Available to trade above.
| Option | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Size by | Size, or Risk: Risk works out the size from the loss you accept at your stop | Size |
| TP / SL | Adds a take profit and a stop loss to the order. See TP / SL | Off |
| Reduce only | The order only makes your position smaller | Off |
| Time in force, for a limit order | GTT rests for up to 28 days. IOC is cancelled if it doesn’t fill at once, and never rests on the book. Post only rests on the book as a maker order, and is cancelled if it would cross it | GTT |
A limit order that rests on the book must meet the market’s minimum size; see Limits.
Check the costs
Section titled “Check the costs”Once you enter a size, the order details under the fields fill in:
| Market order | Limit order |
|---|---|
| Est. fill price | Order value |
| Slippage | Margin at 5×, at your leverage |
| Margin at 5×, at your leverage | Fills as: maker if it rests on the book, taker if it crosses the spread |
| Est. liquidation | Est. liquidation |
| Fees | Fees |
Fees are shown in dollars, as one figure; see The fee. If something is wrong, such as too little margin, a warning shows on one line under the details.
A market order also has Max slippage: the worst price it accepts, as a percentage away from the best price on the book. It starts at 1%, and you can set it up to 10%.
Send it
Section titled “Send it”The order button says what it will send, such as Buy / Long 0.5 SOL. Press it, or press Enter in any field.
A confirmation shows the order in words, its TP / SL if set, and its costs, with the send button named for the order. Don’t ask again turns the confirmation off; turn it back on in Settings, under Confirm orders.
After you send
Section titled “After you send”The line under the button says Sent. Waiting for it to confirm. The order counts once the exchange confirms it: a filled market order shows as a position, and a resting limit order in Open orders, in the tables under the chart.
- The exchange refuses it. The button says why, and offers the fix when there is one, such as a smaller size. The fix only fills in the ticket; you send again yourself.
- It never confirms. The line says it was most likely refused. Mirrorlane never sends an order twice by itself, so nothing is resent.
