Sub-accounts

A sub-account is a separate account under your wallet, with its own margin, positions and keys. Use one to keep a strategy’s risk apart from the rest.

On this page: How many you can have

Every wallet has a main account, Main, and can open sub-accounts under it. Each keeps its own margin, positions and orders, so a loss in one doesn’t draw on another’s margin. All of them share your wallet and your account type. Accounts, in your account, lists them with each one’s equity, what’s free to move, its positions and whether this device has a key for it.

Account type Sub-accounts
Plus Up to 16
Premium Up to 64

Sub-accounts can’t be deleted. On Premium, the 17th sub-account closes the way back to Plus, and Mirrorlane asks you to confirm before creating it: Plus accounts allow up to 16 sub-accounts, so the account stays on Premium.

  1. Open Accounts from the account menu, or the Account tab on a phone, and press Create sub-account.
  2. Give it a name, at least 3 letters and up to 25 characters, and pick a colour: Black (White in the dark theme), Cyan, Violet, Blue or Slate. The colour marks the account in the header, the account menu and every picker.
  3. Press Create sub-account. This device’s key for Main signs it, with no wallet prompt.

Creating one is signed by Main’s key, so do it while trading from Main; if this device has no key for Main, the dialog offers Switch to Main. You can create up to 2 a minute.

Names and colours are saved on your account, so every device shows the same ones. Rename a sub-account, or change Main’s colour, from its row; Main keeps its name. A sub-account without a name shows by its place, such as Sub-account 2.

Press Switch on its row in Accounts, or pick it in the account menu, to trade from it. The header shows its name and colour.

Each account you trade from needs its own trading key on this device. The first time you switch to one, Enable trading on it asks your wallet to sign once or twice, as for Main, and no money moves. If the account hasn’t approved the fee yet, your wallet approves it once too.

A new sub-account starts empty. Move funds to it before you trade there: Move funds on its row opens a transfer from the account you’re trading from.
  • From your other accounts: transfer under Your accounts. It arrives instantly, with no wallet prompt.
  • Deposits: a deposit by address is credited to the account named at the top of the money sheet, so it can go straight to a sub-account. Deposits from your wallet on Ethereum, by the fast bridge and by the direct USDC route go to Main. See Deposits.
  • Withdrawals: a sub-account withdraws to your own wallet, as Main does. All your accounts share the exchange’s limit on secure withdrawals. See Withdrawals.

Your account type belongs to your wallet, so Main and every sub-account are on the same one. Switching under Account type moves all of them at once. See Account types.
